For individual guidance, contact the career advising office at your law school.
Formerly known as SEMJF, SELSC: Progress in the Profession is an established, well-run annual event with a successful track record extending back more than 30 years.
Law schools have two Program registration options, designed to facilitate participation in the face of potential conflicts between Program interview dates and academic or internal recruiting calendars. Your career advising office will inform you whether you must hold June 12 and 13 open for interviews, or whether employers interested in an interview will make arrangements with you directly.
If your law school registered as an Interviewing school, virtual interviews will be conducted on Thursday, June 12, and Friday, June 13, between 10 am and 6 pm Eastern time. Interview candidates must keep both days of the Program free for interviews, which will be scheduled for them; individual scheduling requests cannot be accommodated.
If your law school registered as a Resume Collection school, employers interested in conducting an interview will contact you directly.
SELSC is a consortium of NALP-member, ABA-accredited law schools in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and West Virginia. Law schools within these states must pay a registration fee each year in order for their degree candidates to participate.
If you are a JD or LLM degree candidate attending law school in one of the Consortium states, check with your career advising office to see if they have registered to participate this year. If so, that office will provide you with information on how to register.
Position postings will be available to registered candidates on May 2. Candidates attending Interviewing schools and candidates attending Resume Collection schools have access to the same opportunities.
Candidates attending Interviewing schools may apply to a maximum of 20 interviewing employers, and an unlimited number of "resume collect" employers (who plan to contact candidates directly rather than interview at the Program).
Candidates attending Resume Collection schools may apply to an unlimited number of employers.
A resume and a Candidate Statement are required for every application. Individual employers may require a cover letter, a writing sample, and/or a transcript. Additional documents may be required in connection with an interview.
The prompt for your Candidate Statement: Discuss your academic, professional and life experiences, focusing on your ability to persevere, overcome challenges, and contribute to the legal profession. A single page, 250 - 275 word, Candidate Statement is recommended.
